Screen Smart Opening Events

8:45-11:30am:  Pacific Cinematique presents Counsiousness in a Consumer Society for RSS students at RSS.

9:00-12:00:  Strong Start for pre-schoolers

7:00-9:00 pm @ RSS: Pacific Cinematique presents Youth, Parents, and the New Media Landscape.  How do you connect to and discuss the media children are consuming and creating? This interactive workshop will inform and inspire new ways to engage with media. (for Parents)

3:00-5:00 pm: Pre-Teen City Wide Treasure Hunt. (Grades 5-7). Pick up/drop off @ Community Connections. Free but permission form needed.  Please register by May 11 at 250-837-2920 ex.27

7:00-8:00 High School Acrobats Drop-In Trampoline and gymnastics drop-in time. Cost: $6

 Join Tanya Lipscomb AKA "Kiki the Eco Elf" as she provides a motivating presentation for early learning and child care providers, teachers, parents and community service providers about how to get kids hooked on ecological sustainability and environmental awareness. Kiki will provide you with games, activities and ideas for implementing the learning opportunities around environmental issues.

7:30 pm Screen Smart Closing Event:  A FREE screening of the film Play Again at the Roxy Theatre. PLAY AGAIN is an award-winning documentary.  Children today spend more time in the virtual world than the natural world.  What are the consequences of a life disconnected from nature?  Play Again unplugs a group of media savvy teens and takes them on their first wilderness adventure to find out.

Thank you to the Roxy Theatre for donating the theatre for this community event!
